The No. 10 Penn State Nittany Lions start the 2018 college football season with a test from the Appalachian State Mountaineers. Trace McSorley got Penn State on the board first with a 12-yard touchdown, but App State immediately responded with a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown. The Nittany Lions held a two-score advantage in the fourth quarter, but the Mountaineers use some creativity to get back into the game and eventually take the lead. Penn State manages to tie the game on Trace McSorley’s 15-yard strike to KJ Hamler in the final minute of regulation. In overtime, Miles Sanders puts the Nittany Lions ahead with a 4-yard score. On the ensuing drive, App State’s Zac Thomas gets picked off by Amani Oruwariye in the end zone to seal the game.
