First Ace Attorney cosplay came out great, then possibly changed the trajectory of my life. Spent a lot of time piecing together the perfect Mia outfit that didn't look too costumey, until I needed to sew a white lapel to the blazer dress that didn't sit perfect. But no biggie. Steve Madden blazer dress and purse, silver thin belt, and beige scarf were all secondhand. I bought the earrings and shoes online, and the magatama (made of real amethyst) from a stone carver on Etsy. The attorneys badge was from eBay.
Here's the fun part: I didn't have enough time to take her iconic pose photos (pointing, hands on desk, in-game emotes) because during the cosplay contest at FanExpo, I felt this intense full-body wave of tingles and weakness that made me slump in my chair, intense pins and needles in my arms and legs, and little energy to speak and interact with the show. I hadn't eaten a ton that day, but still never expected anything like that to happen. My friends helped me navigate out of there (with VERY little help to FanExpo staff, by the way, their safety protocols are almost non-existent) yet even after eating good and hydrating a ton, I never got back to normal. Here I am posting this from the emergency room after 2 weeks of getting blood tests, MRIs, CT scans, and even more blood tests to find out what possible condition I have unlocked for myself.
It's quite a bummer that Mia didn't get to shine the full day as she deserved to. I'm also bummed I've been unable to work on creative projects in my current state and possibly won't get to for a long time. HYDRATE! NOURISH YOURSELVES! And if you're superstitious, don't pick characters that immediately die in their series!
