I didn't like the dresses I found in stores for my graduation ceremony and I don't have time to customize one. I recreated an outfit at home using tailored grey flare trousers and a short asymmetric black crepe dress on top of it. I tried wearing the dress on it's own but it looked terrible on me. I'll pair all that with pointed black heels.
This is wildly out of the usual graduation theme right? Like it's usually white dresses and idk what to do. Idk if my outfit is appropriate since it's definitely unconventional.
I found a couple of (black) dresses online, but it's a risk since idk anything about the sizes, even if i check the size charts i wouldn't know 100% if it looks good until i try it and the whole return/exchange online thing is a hassle. It will cost me a lot of money so idk what to do.
Is it okay to wear unconventional (but obviously tailored chic) clothes to a graduation ceremony or is it better to stick to the unspoken rule of wearing a white dress?
I didn’t take a photo of myself wearing the outfit but I attached pictures to help you better understand what my outfit looks like:
The first photo is the color palette and similar tailoring to what i’ll be wearing.
The middle photo is what the short dress looks like at the top.
The last photo is the closest one except everything will be fitted and tailored not flowing.
TL;DR
I want to wear an unconventional, tailored outfit consisting of grey flare trousers, a short asymmetric black crepe dress, and black heels to my graduation instead of the traditional white dress, but I'm worried about the risks of online shopping and want to know if it's okay to break tradition.
